It’s Been a Minute… But Here’s What I’ve Been Up To

I just realized it’s been since February since I last wrote a blog post—and honestly, that’s about how long it took me to complete this new guitar series for The District Gallery.

I’ve really enjoyed working on the same subject for a while. It gave me the opportunity to notice both the similarities and the differences in these guitars. I also appreciated the freedom to decide on color as I went—finishing one piece, then choosing what felt right for the next. The last two I painted were the blue and the orange guitars. I wanted the series to complement each other as they hang together in the gallery. And who knows—maybe one person or business will buy all four for their space. That would be awesome!

Along with delivering these guitars to The District Gallery, I also dropped off several new paintings at The Copper Fox in Franklin, TN. My next stop is Kore Gallery in Louisville, KY. I’m planning to dive into a series of architectural paintings, starting with Knoxville and then moving on to Louisville. I’ll likely include a few for The Copper Fox too. See all my new work (and the archive) on my Gallery Page.

I recently spent a couple of days going through my photo library, choosing images that align with my ideas for these upcoming series. If you’re curious about how I select reference images, I talk more about my process over on my YouTube channel.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how I want to spend my studio time for the rest of the year. My focus will be on the three galleries currently representing my work. Unfortunately, that means I’ll be skipping Artclectic and Artsclamation this year. While I’ve loved participating in those events, they require a lot of prep and time. In the past, I’ve rushed to create enough inventory, and I don’t think that’s fair to my work—or to the patrons who attend. Once I’m in a better rhythm and have a solid inventory, I may revisit those shows.

On a personal note, Tracy and I are still working on hiking all the trails in the Smoky Mountains. We’ve been getting out about twice a month. The mileage depends on how we’re feeling and how much time we can spare, but we’ve built up enough endurance to handle 8–12 mile hikes pretty easily now. Later this summer, we’re planning to tackle some 15-mile trails and do back-to-back hiking days, especially as we start covering more ground on the North Carolina side of the Smokies.

I think that’s all for now! As always, I’ll be back when I have something fun to share. Thanks for reading!
