I’m so excited for cooler weather and the changing colors of Fall!

I’m sitting on my back porch looking out over the mountains and seeing the leaves slowly change color from green to the warmer yellows, oranges, and reds. As one of my friends recently stated. “How cool is it that the view just outside your studio reflects the mosaic-like nature of your painting process.” It’s so true. The collage of colors in the trees is a great inspiration for what I do and I’m very lucky to have this view to remind me of that.

Thankful for another successful Artclectic.

I want to start with how well last weekend went. A big thanks to my friend Ken Walls for all his help too. Ken does a better job explaining my process than I do:)
I think this was my sixth Artclectic event and It ended up being my second most in sales. I’m always so grateful that I get to be one of the artist and how I get to really people that are genuinely interested in what I do.
Another great thing about this event is the community of artists. We all put a lot of work into preparing for Artclectic. Every year I am amazed at the quality of work being presented and that we all want each other to have a great show. It’s a very supportive community that is more like family. With that said, I think this year was one of the best exhibits of art and I’m pretty sure the sales prove it.

Preparing for the next event, Artsclamation.

Since I had such a great show at Artclectic I’m now back in the studio working on new paintings for Artsclamation. Not a bad problem to have:) Artsclamation is December 6th and 7th. Luckily that gives me enough time to produce a few new paintings. Since this event is in Knoxville and close to the Smoky Mountains, I want to play with some of my ideas of being in nature. Like the painting I recently created, “Seasons” I want to have a few other colorful paintings reflecting the variety of colors seen in nature. Over the years I have been taking photos of our hikes through the Smoky Mountains and I’m ready to challenge myself with some new techniques.

Italy was beautiful!

I just went on about how I’m wanting to dive into more nature focused paintings. The funny thing is, I’m also being pulled into doing some work inspired by the architecture I got to see in Italy. As usual I will be jumping from subject to subject. The inspiration of all the historical art and architecture of Italy has definitely left an impression on me. I am already working through my photos and trying to figure out what my first Italian inspired painting will be.

The District Gallery’s “Big Tiny Show”

One last bit of info about my next exhibits is that I was selected to be in a local (Knoxville) exhibit. This one is an event where all the work has to be 12” or smaller and the District Gallery will be full of all these works. This is a great idea for right before the holiday season. The opening reception is November the 22nd. I plan to attend so if you’re in the area let me know. I’d love to see you there.

Best of Show!

I almost forgot, I recently started showing my paintings with a local coffee shop, Vienna Coffee Company. It’s a coffee shop that allows a group of local artists have quarterly exhibits. I decided to get involved so I could meet other artists in the area and to introduce my paintings to a new audience. The recent exhibit was titled “Sweet Rides” and I entered my “Big Ole Buick” painting. Luckily, I ended up winning best of show. Pretty cool I get to participate in things like this and get rewarded. The Coffee at Vienna Coffee Co. Is amazing too:)

Another Win!

New videos on YouTube!

One last thing is that I’m downloading some new videos on my YouTube channel. I’ve had fun sharing a little about my studio practice and plan to continue sharing even more about my process. I feel that I should break my process down even more than I’ve done in the past and hopefully encourage others to try it or at least encourage some sort of inspiration. I know that when I watch videos from other artists I almost always learn something. Occasionally I find a way to incorporate those new ideas in my own work.
Thanks for reading my blog. I hope you get something useful from me sharing my thoughts. I know I don’t have a huge following and I’m ok with that. I share these things because it helps me work through ideas. There is something magical in writing your thoughts. It makes you think more. It makes room for new ideas.
Thanks again! I’ll see you soon:) RLP
