I think last time I posted on here I was working on a large commission, and I’m happy to say that it has been completed. In fact, the image on this post is the painting. This is my largest commission piece to date. The painting is 48″ x 36″ in size and took me a little over two weeks to complete. Because of the size and subject matter I made sure to get plenty of photos and video to document the process. I’ll sit down soon and compile that media into a nice video to share on my website, YouTube, IG, etc.. I’m still working on a title. I’ve painted the Ryman so many times it’s getting harder to come up with a title I love. I’m sure it’l hit me soon.
On another note, I just had a great Zoom meeting with Four Artist TN. We are staying on track for our Knoxville exhibition, which is May 6-27th, 2022. I really think this will be an amazing show of our works. One reason I’m excited about this is that we are getting to really dive into the work. We have ample time to work through our ideas, do studies, and focus on the work that fits best with our ideas. A year out is a long time, but time flies when you’re doing something you enjoy..
After I complete this blog post I’ll be working on a small bee painting, and recording the process. My plan is to put together more process videos for my YouTube channel. I hope this encourages others to try my process or just give you all something fun to watch. I haven’t put together what kind of script I’ll follow. For now I just want to be putting some content of my process and see where it goes. If there is something about the process you would like for me to focus on just let me know. I’m open to sharing whats most requested. If you’ve not been to my YouTube channel, here’s a link: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCi9kOTgzzZoByXSf3kfO8pg I have many videos on my process. Some dating back to 2010. My process has evolved over that span of time, but the basics are still the same. I’d love for you to check out some of those videos and please subscribe so you’ll be notified when my new video series gets going.
The new series will be of me making new work, but it will also have me talking about my life as an artist. The ups and downs of being a creative. I may even get to the point where the videos a live so you’ll be able to ask questions or comment on my techniques. Who knows, I might even get enough interest to start doing some Zoom classes again like I did for the Community Art Project last year.
One last bit of news is that The Copper Fox Gallery in Leipers Fork will be setting up a temporary gallery at Steeplchase on June 26th. I’ve been asked to include some of my work so I’ll be busy working on a few newer works, specifically for this event. I’m sure a bee or two will make it in there too.
Time to get back to work. Next time I hope to share more about the next Mystery Art League. That event will probably be in November and the planning has begun. Thank you for dropping by my website and reading my blog. If there is anything you would like to know more about, just shoot me an email, reply on here, or submit through my contact form. I’d love to hear from you.
See you next week! RLP
