Since 2009, Randy has been transferring the ink from recycled magazine pages onto a thin layer of beeswax.

The result of his process is a mosaic-like image with an amber glow, giving a unique twist to every subject he creates.

Encaustic, Reinvented

I work in encaustic, but instead of mixing pigment into wax, I transfer printed ink directly onto the surface. The beeswax is the foundation. The ink is embedded into it.

Each image is built piece by piece. I cut fragments of printed material and burnish them into the wax. The paper is then removed, leaving only the ink fused into the surface. What may appear collage-like at first glance is actually a constructed image made from transferred ink.

From a distance, the composition feels unified. Up close, the surface reveals its layered structure. The result merges painting, printmaking, and carving into a contemporary approach to encaustic.
